Joey Gastmans: From early ideato a live product

Across product thinking, design, frontend and launch.I stay with it after it is live.

Most recently, that has meant fantasy sports, predictors and survivor games. The work itself goes much wider.

How I work

Three stages

Before the start

Start with the person, not the feature list.

Whether they play, subscribe or just need to get something done. If it doesn’t make sense for them, it doesn’t ship.

On the climb

Make a version you can feel.

I like to get it into Figma, and often into the product, before it gets dressed up. You learn more from a rough version than from a polished deck.

After the finish

Stay around after Saturday.

Launch is not the end. I stay with the people who run the product, and the people who use it.

About · outside the product

Still close to the product. Still in the work.

I’m Joey, based in Beerse, Belgium. My background runs through journalism, marketing, e-commerce and product.

These days I spend most of my time somewhere between a customer problem, Figma, the frontend and a product that’s already live. The marketing sits with me as well: how it launches, and how it finds its people.
